Now you can have the protection of a unique coupon code—while keeping your customers on site. With the release of Klaviyo’s new feature, Coupons in Forms, you now have an easy way to generate both unique and static, click-to-copy coupons in your Klaviyo Forms.

How does it work? If you’re using Klaviyo Forms, which are included in every Klaviyo account, you can now add the new “Coupons” content block to new and existing forms.

Once you’ve added the Coupon block to your form, you choose between displaying a unique or static coupon at the success step. For those who select unique coupons, your customers will no longer have to leave your website to retrieve their one-time use code. We make it easier than ever for shoppers to redeem their unique codes with our new click-to-copy functionality, so customers can copy their code and apply it at checkout in one click.

We sweat the small stuff

Check out all of the attention to detail that our team has put into Coupons In Forms, ensuring everything works properly for you and the shoppers that will be using your coupons.

  • We added the ability for shoppers to copy their code within the success step of the onsite form with one tap. This makes it easier for customers to redeem their discount, especially with tough to remember coupon codes.
  • We allow for a fallback code on the off chance a unique code cannot be generated, so customers are never prevented from purchasing.
  • We check to see if a shopper has already subscribed, and if they have, we give them the same code to prevent coupon abuse.
  • If a customer completes the sign-up form multiple times and their original code is expired, we create a new code for shoppers to prevent barriers to purchase.
  • For Shopify customers, new price rules and coupons can be created from within Klaviyo forms allowing you to publish forms faster. Non-Shopify users can upload a CSV of coupons.
  • The form builder inserts a placeholder for unique coupon codes, so you can ensure there are no surprises when your form goes live on your site.
  • With Klaviyo enabling your onsite forms, email, and SMS, it is easy to ensure shoppers have a consistent experience, receiving the same coupon code across every channel.
  • Coupons can be added to any existing Klaviyo form. No need to create a new form to use this feature.

Static codes vs. unique codes

For too long, brands have had to choose between the pros and cons of showing the same generic multi-use coupon to everyone who opts in via their sign-up forms or a unique one-time use code for every shopper who subscribes.

Static coupon codes

Pros: Brands choose the generic or static code for good reason. It’s easy for the customer and benefits the brands. All shoppers receive the same code, and brands can keep the shoppers onsite, leading to higher e-commerce conversion rates.

Cons: The downside of having a single code that anyone can use is that these codes quickly end up on coupon sites, where anyone can access your code, even if they don’t opt-in to your brand’s email or SMS. This hurts list growth. In addition, your attribution and tracking suffer, because a code that you’re only intending to give to new subscribers on their first purchase is being used in other situations, possibly even by existing customers—reinforcing the expectation that they should only purchase from you with a discount.

Unique coupon codes

Pros: Giving each customer a unique code solves the problems of using a static code. These one-time use codes don’t have much value on coupon sites, incentivizing shoppers to subscribe to your email or SMS channels in order to claim their first purchase discount. In addition, your coupon reporting attribution becomes more accurate..

Cons: Historically, the drawback with unique codes is that the onsite form collecting the customer’s email or SMS opt-in is not capable of displaying unique codes on the success step of the form. This forces the customer to leave your website to retrieve their unique code from their welcome email or SMS message. Sending customers away from your website hurts your onsite conversion rate, which equates to lost revenue. However, with Klaviyo’s Coupons in Forms functionality these concerns are a thing of the past.
